Ashland's historic 135 year old city hall, located on the city's downtown plaza was donated by the Helman family in 1884 with conditions. The city is considering with what to do with the building which is in disrepair and no longer serves as a post office, jail, and only houses a few city employees. There is reversionary clause according to an heir name Robert Cox of Virginia. He doesn't want Ashland to sell the building and pocket the money.
