Nonnative turkeys gobble up important habitat for native species

The Applegate watershed has a number of wild turkeys that threaten native species.  There are at least 45,000 in Oregon, coming from birds that were introduced by the ODFW in 1899.  After about 584 releases, the state is now worried about their consumption of endangered reptiles and amphibians, not to mention the destruction of local farms and gardens.
